Presentation at Mipro 2025: Using Humanoid Robots to Enhance Student Motivation in English Lessons

At the international conference Mipro 2025 in Opatija, a paper titled “Using Humanoid Robots to Enhance Student Motivation: Practical Applications in English Language Lessons” was presented by I. Ružić (First Primary School Čakovec, Faculty of Organization and Informatics, Čakovec, Croatia), I. Balaban, and J. Bađari (Faculty of Organization and Informatics, Varaždin, Croatia).

The research focused on the use of the humanoid robot NAO in teaching English to 5th–7th grade primary school students. It emphasized the positive impact of the robot on student motivation, supported by survey findings based on the Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS), which follows Keller’s ARCS model of motivation.

The paper also discussed teachers’ experiences of integrating robots into classrooms, highlighting both the benefits and challenges of this innovative approach. Special attention was given to lesson preparation with robots as teaching assistants, particularly the use of advanced language models that enable interactive and adaptive learning.

Through practical classroom examples, the study demonstrated how humanoid robots can enhance the learning process, increase student engagement, and introduce new opportunities for modern education.
